Dewey's Read-a-Thon 2014: Updates

lørdag den 26. april 2014

The time is approaching for the Read-a-Thon and this will be my update post. During the read-a-thon I will update this post with my progress and how my read-a-thon are going.

I have decided to start with the first Antboy book by Kenneth Bøgh Andersen. A short book of only 165 pages.

13:47 - Hour 0: Kick Off Meme
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Denmark
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I think it is the first Harry Potter book. I have for a long period wanted to reread the books and this time it will be in english instead of danish.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? That must absolutely be my M&M's - love them.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I love reading , but again, I think every one participating in the read-a-thon loves that. Another thing could be that I finish my education this summer and can call myself a surveyor.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? This is my first, so I'm just looking forward to see how it all works and to find out if I can read for all the 24 hours.

16:30 - First book read
We are now 2½ hour into the read-a-thon and I have finished the first book. Antboy was a funny experience. If you actually got super power what would you use it for? That is the question Pelle must answer in the book. Should he be a superhero or a supervallian.I will look forward to read more about Antboy. He is a funny guy.

I have participated in the mini challenge: Pick a Paragraph

Now I will continue with another danish book. Pectus sten by Lise Bidstrup.

21:30 - Second book finished
So I get through my second book in this read-a-thon. "Pectus sten" was a interesting read, and i think I have to go to the library or bookstore to get the second and last part of the history.

With this book I am up to 416 pages read.

It is really nice just to sit down and read a lot. It's a long time since I did that last time. It is also interesting to participate in this read-a-thon. The only thing is that there is so much activity that I have trouble following it all. I had planed to visit some other blogs during this read-a-thon and make some comment, but I'm not really good at it. Every time a try, I get overwhelmed by all the participants and can find out where to start. Furthermore I actually also just want to read a little more. I think that i will look at some of all the blog post after the read-a-thon. But to all of you out there. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am. And thank to my cheerleaders for the comments.

Next book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm really exited to see how it is to read the story in english.

2:00 - Just had a little nap
An hour ago I just could not hold my eyes open anymore, so I decided to take a small nap. One hour of sleep and now I am ready to continue. I'm 90 pages into Harry Potter right now and here halfway through the read-a-thon I have totally read 506 pages.

10:45 - Third book read
I'm finally done with my third book. After my little nap between 1 and 2 o'clock the reading works fine for about two hours. from 4 to 8 o'clock i had a hard time. I was shifting between reading and falling asleep, so my reading was a lot slower than normal, and I think there is sentences in the book that I have read for quite a few times.

I have totally read 725 pages.

With about 3 hours left of the read-a-thon I start my fourth book. This time it will be the second Antboy book by Kenneth Bøgh Andersen.

13:30 - The last book finished and the end of my read-a-thon.
I have just turned the last page in the second Antboy book and by that finished my fourth book in this read-a-thon. It was a easy read and I'm almost not feeling tired right now. But as there is only half an hour left I will stop now.

I ended on a total of 882 pages read, and at the figure below the development in pages read during the 24 hours can be seen.

13:45 - Hour 24: End of Event Meme
1) Which hour was most daunting for you? Between hour 14 and 18. I had a nap betwen hour 11 and 12, and had to good reading hours after that, but then it got hard again.
2) Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? I really enjoyed to read about Antboy. They are short and funny books.
3) Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? The only thing is the start time. In Denmark we started at 2 pm, but I think it would work better if I could read from one morning to the next instead of from midday to midday. I know this is hard to fix because there is so mane participants form all over the worl, but maybe I will just start earlier next time.
4) What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? I mostly focused on reading, but it was nice to have a few cheerleading-comments.
5) How many books did you read? 4
6) What were the names of the books you read? Anboy: Tissemyrens bid by Kenneth Bøgh Andernse, Pectus Sten by Lise Bidstrup, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling, Antboy: Operation Skøbnespil by Kenneth Bøgh Andersen
7) Which book did you enjoy most? I really don't know. They were all great.
8) Which did you enjoy least? -
9) If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? -
10) How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? I would like to participate in another read-a-thon and it would probably just be as a reader again.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon 2014: My TBR pile

Hello, I'm really exited to participate in my first Read-a-Thon this Saturday. I have read that it is a good idea to prepare some snacks and easy food, which mean that the time can be used for reading and not cooking during the 24 hours. As the Read-a-Thon starts at 2 pm her in Denmark I think I will use the start of the day finding snack and taking a little nap.

The most important preparing is however to chose the books to read. As I have never participated in a Read-a-Thon before I have no idea of how I like to read or how many pages I can read in 24 hours. I also don't know if I can stay awake for all the hours. My TBR pile is because of that a mix of different unread books from my shelves. I'm quite sure that I have to many books, but I like to have something to chose between according to my reading mood.

The books are:

  • Vinterpiger (Winthergirls) by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling
  • Pectus sten by Lise Bidstrup (This is a danish author, and the book has not been translated)
  • En Flænge i Himlen (The Fault in Our Stars) by John Green
  • Silhuet by Nick Clausen (Again a danish author)
  • Opfindelsen af Hugo Cabret (The Invention of Hugo Cabret) by Brian Selznick

In addition to the physical books I have two books ready on my Kindle. Those are:
  • Angelbound by Christina Bauer
  • Fordærv by Michael Kamp (A danish author, who was a teacher on my primary school, but I have never read any of his books. Maybe it will be this weekend)
Even though I think these book will be enough I have 6 short books about Antboy waiting for me at the library. I can pick them up tomorrow, and I think that the short book would be brilliant to a read-a-thon. The books are written by the danish author Kenneth Bøgh Andersen and last year it was turned into a movie. For a couple of weeks ago I heard Kenneth talk about the difference between the books and the movie and it made me curious to read the book and see what exactly a danish super hero is like.

That is all I have to say for now. On Saturday a will make a progress-post which I will update several time during the 24 hour Read-a-Thon. See you on Saturday and I'm looking forward to follow your progress too, so if you are participating, let me know.
